LAND USE DIVISION


Worked with New York City Council members to research, analyze and understand complex land use and planning issues; worked with City Council members to pass Mandatory Inclusionary Housing (MIH) and Zoning for Quality and Affordability (ZQA). Project work was focused in Manhattan and the Bronx.

GEHL STUDIO

Worked to develop mobility frameworks and public life public space plans for cities throughout the US. Additionally, worked with HPD to develop a planning process and framework to be used across New York City agencies to meet the city’s goal of building and preserving 200,000 units of affordable housing over the next 10 years. Statistical analysis and visualizing data related to public life, public space research.

THREAD COLLECTIVE

Worked with Professors Elliott Maltby and Gita Nandan - lowlands uses green infrastructure as a vehicle for a more economically and ecologically resilient public housing population: to address social justice issues in relation to access to quality public space, to engage local youth in the process of improving their environment, and to design innovative, integrated stormwater management strategies.

PRATT INSTITUTE

Worked under the direction of Ron Shiffman to advance the RAMP (Recovery, Adaptation, Mitigation, & Planning) Initiative. RAMP, a post-Sandy initiative of Pratt Institute Programs for Sustainable Planning and Development, is a suite of studios, classes and public programs that works closely with community partners to address issues of recovery, sustainability and resilience in the face of changing climate.

INFORMATION
   
    Christopher Rice is a New York-based Urban Planner. He completed his MSc in City & Regional Planning at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. He is interested in using the tools of urban planning and design to advance social and racial equity. Christopher is originally from Ohio, where he completed his undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies at Oberlin College. His other interests include film photography and electronic music.
